With Law enforcement and older citizens working together,
the Somerset County TRIAD, initiated in November 1995, is
celebrating six years of planning activities and presenting
programs involving and benefitting both law enforcement and senior citizens.
PALS(Phones Assure A Link to Security) is a telephone reassurance
program, available to older homebound persons who live alone.
Program participants are called by caring volunteers on a regular
basis, to provide reassurance and check the persons safety. If a
specific need is discovered, community agencies may be contacted
to remedy the situation.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
A Volunteer will call an assign client daily or as needed, at a
specific time to make sure they are safe and secure. If the phone
is not answered within thirty minutes of the prearranged time,
an emergency plan will go into effect.
The PALS PROGRAM is operated by The ADULT DAY ACTIVITIES CENTER
located at 231 Tabernacle Drive, Somerset, PA. 15501.
The service is FREE and will be expanded to include the entire
Somerset County Area
Training will be provided prior to assignment and substitute
volunteers will provide flexibility.
TO VOLUNTEER FOR THIS VALUABLE SERVICE, please contact Joyce
Dumbauld of Americorp (PALS Coordinator) or Nancy Miller
(Adult Day Care Manager) at (814)445-8506
PALS PROGRAM VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED IN THE SOMERSET, MEYERSDALE
AND CONFLUENCE AREAS TO MAKE TELEPHONE CALLS TO THE HOMEBOUND
ELDERLY OR DISABLED, TO CHECK ON THEIR SAFETY AND WELL-BEING.
The File of Life program was initiated by Triad to help elderly
residents of Somerset County. The File of Life cards which have
a magnetized strip on the back, are attached to the outside of
the refrigerator. A decal will be provided for entrance doors.
This alerts emergency medical personnel, law enforcement and
hospital staff that vital information is available if a senior
is found unable to communicate coherently. These cards contain
potential life saving information including medications and
mini-medical history. If interested pick one up at one of the
seven Senior Community Centers mentioned below.
