The Appalachian Trail is a continuous marked footpath that goes from Mount Katahdin in Maine, to Springer Mountain in Georgia, a distance of about 2,160 miles.  That's a pretty good hike.

Also ... I highly recommend Ben Wagner's AT movie, released in 2006.  Shot on the Appalachian Trail, Southbounders is one of the finest movies I've ever seen!
