Meyersdale's Own Emily Newman Crowned Maple Queen LIX

Emily Newman won the 59th Annual Maple Queen Scholorship Pageant on Saturday, March 4 at the Meyersdale Area High School Auditorium. The Meyersdale Senior is the daughter of Kathy and Greg Newman. Queen Emily will serve as the official ambassador of the Pennsylvania Maple Festival held later this month.

Judging for the event consisted of a private interview session, talent, promenade, and finally a live question session. After tabulating the scoring, Emily was named Maple Queen. During her talent portion of the program, Queen Emily performed a vocal solo of Hernando's Hideaway.

Tweleve Somerset County senioir girls competed for the title. Following the talent portion of the contest, the top five princesses were selected. Joining Queen Emily were: Katie Grube, Tessa Minnick, Laura Sesack, and Lindsay Berkebile.

Twelve Area Teens Competing for Maple Queen LIX

Twelve Somerset County Senior girls will compete for the title of Queen Maple LIX on Saturday, March 4, at 7 p.m. at the Meyersdale Area High School Auditorium The twelve were named Maple Princesses after preliminary auditions earlier in the fall.

Contestants for the Queen's Contest will be judged on a personal interview, promenade, talent, and a question and answer session.
