 Fallingwater Frank Lloyd Wright's masterpiece is located only twenty minutes from Lesley's Mountain View Country Inn. Fallingwater, Mill Run PennsylvaniaDesigned in 1936, the home epitomizes 20th century modern architecture and and is Wright's sublime integration of man and nature. Recognized as one of the world's most important architectural attractions, the house is presented as the Kaufmann's lived in it, complete with the original furnishings and art works. Fallingwater is open for tours daily, except Monday, from mid-March through November. Open weekends in December.  Closed January and February.  Reservations are required.

 Kentuck Knob The Laurel Highlands is blessed with a second Frank Lloyd Wright designed home. Kentuck Knob, also known as the Hagan House, built in 1953, overlooks the Youghiogheny River Gorge and is built entirely of tidewater red cypress and native fieldstone laid up by local craftsmen.Kentuck.JPG (28062 bytes) An open floor plan based on a hexagonal grid and expanses of glass artfully integrate the outdoor and indoor spaces. Kentuck Knob is open for tours Tuesday through Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm during spring, summer and fall. During the winter tours are on weekends only or by special arrangement.  Whitewater Rafting Nearby Ohiopyle State Park has the Youghiogheny River, one of the most popular rivers in the country for whitewater rafting, canoeing and kayaking. Different sections of the river offer various degrees of difficulty, from the Class V upper section to the easy middle section for novices and families. Rentals and guided trips are available.  Hiking, Biking & Nature Trails   The Laurel Highlands has an extensive trail network for both hiking and biking. Powdermill Nature Reserve is located 3 miles south of Rector, Route 381.  It serves as the primary environmental research station for Carnegie Museum of Natural History.  A self-guided brochure is available which lists highlights of the Black Birch Trail system, herb garden and butterfly garden. The Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail one of the most popular, runs for 70 miles along Laurel Ridge from Ohiopyle State Park to north of Johnstown. The many state parks offer numerous trails ranging from short walks to multiday treks. Rails to Trails converts unused railroad right of ways to biking trails through the mountains. Bike rentals are available in Ohiopyle. Maps and directions are available from the state parks or from Lesley's Mountain View Country Inn.
 Fort Necessity One of George Washington's earliest commands (and defeats), this recreation of the simple palisade and breastwork fort illustrates an important early chapter of the French and Indian War. A 19th century inn is also on the site. Fort Necessity is open daily year round from 8:30-5:00.

 Fort Ligonier Located in quaint and historic Ligonier, this important outpost along the Forbes Road is a fascinating insight into life during the French and Indian War and is the finest example of this type of fort in North America.  Fort Ligonier is open daily from April 1 to October 31.

Laurel Caverns With 2.3 miles of passages, Laurel Caverns is Pennsylvania's largest cave. Composed of Loyalhanna Limestone, it's unique features include catacombs and natural intricate sculpturing. The cave is open 7 days a week from May 1 to October 31 and on weekends in March, April, and November.
